William Tyndale, English Bible Smuggler

Jesus said, “Go into all the world and spread the gospel.” (See Mark 16:15.) He knew some places in the world would have laws against obeying his command. When officials told Peter and the other apostles not to teach people about Jesus, the apostles said, “We ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29).

Bible smugglers through the centuries have agreed with the apostles. They have taken Bibles into countries where officials do not approve of their activity.

The Torchlighters: The William Tyndale Story

This DVD focuses on the life of William Tyndale. The Torchlighters is an animated series telling the stories of great heroes of the faith.

The year is 1536. William Tyndale is a hunted fugitive, a “dangerous man.” What is his crime? Translating the Scriptures into English. It’s illegal to read, write or even speak the sacred Scriptures in English, but William defies the authorities and begins the dangerous work of translating the Bible. This episode of The Torchlighters follows William’s adventures as he works in secret, moving from town to town as a fugitive to avoid capture. Friends help him, but enemies may be lurking around any corner! Children will be challenged by William’s devotion to bring God’s Word to every man, even at the risk of his own life.
