No Secrets

Cross

Hamid was a Muslim living in a Muslim country. Not many of the people in the country were Christians, and most of the Christians were workers who came from other countries. The law of the land said the Christians could not share their faith with Muslims. They were allowed to attend churches for Christians from other countries, but the churches had to be approved by the government.

But one worker from another country dared to follow God’s laws instead of the laws of the country. He led Hamid and several other youth to Christ.

The youth all wanted to know more about what it means to be a follower of Jesus. But the Christian worker had no Christian books to share with them. He didn’t even have a computer on which to compose lessons for the youth.

So he wrote lessons about how to follow Jesus by hand on paper. He wanted to make copies of the lessons for all the “students,” but it might have been dangerous to ask a Muslim at a print shop to copy lessons about Jesus. He looked until he found a safe place to copy the lessons.

Rocking the Boat
One day, Hamid visited a church that was approved for Christians from other countries. When the leader of the church realized that Hamid was a former Muslim, he was afraid! He knew he might be persecuted if anyone thought he had shared his faith with a Muslim. Some Christians in restricted countries are content to obey the rules and not “rock the boat.” Also, the government sometimes sends spies to Christian meetings to spy and report on their activities.

The leader of the church told Hamid that he could not participate in the worship service. “You do not know the secrets of Christianity,” he told Hamid.

Hamid was upset. He visited his Christian teacher and asked, “Am I a Christian or not?” The teacher assured him that salvation comes from trusting Jesus, not knowing “secrets.”

“Then I want to be baptized,” said Hamid. His teacher warned him that, as a former Muslim, he would be persecuted if he were baptized. Hamid said, “I am ready to face persecution for my faith.”

No Secrets
“Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. “Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10:26–28).

Pray for Christians in Muslim countries who risk everything to follow Jesus. Pray for the boldness and protection for Christians from other countries in Muslim lands.

Helping someone to grow as a follower of Jesus is often called “discipling.” You can help other Christians by encouraging them to do the things that the Bible tells followers of Jesus to do, and by being a good example to them. How would you encourage a new believer like Hamid?

With one other person playing the part of a new Christian, role play giving encouragement to a new believer.
