Pakistan: A Mailbox Threat and a Quran Trap

Pakistan

Pastor Robert is the leader of a church in Pakistan. He and his wife have five children. Their church has about 80 members. Some of the members used to be Muslims. Muslims in Pakistan who decide to follow Jesus often face serious persecution.

One day, Pastor Robert found a handwritten letter in his mailbox. “Mr. Robert,” the letter said, “we are watching you.” The letter was written by radical Muslims. It went on to warn the pastor that he must stop leading Muslims to Christ. If he did not, the radicals promised that they would hurt “all your family members, smallest and eldest.”

What would Pastor Robert do?

“I ignored the letter,” he said.

But the Muslims did not ignore Pastor Robert. During a Muslim festival, a group of men put a bag full of torn-up Quran pages near Pastor Robert’s house. The Quran is the Muslim holy book.

It is against Pakistan’s law to damage a Quran. The Muslims had set a trap with the torn-up pages. They hoped Pastor Robert would be blamed for tearing up a Quran and would be punished. But no one blamed the pastor. God protected him from being accused falsely.

Pastor Robert continues to lead Muslims to Christ. His church provides a women’s ministry, Sunday school, and prison ministry to their community. Please ask God to continue to take care of the pastor and his family.
