Prepared for Persecution

A VOM contact recently talked with a 17-year-old girl in Nepal, where many people are Hindus. The girl’s aunt was a Christian, and she led the girl to the Lord. Hindus in Nepal sometimes persecute people who leave their religion to follow Jesus. “My aunt prepared me for persecution,” said the girl.

The aunt was wise to prepare her. When the girl’s mother found out her new faith, she locked her in her room and took away all her clothes and shoes so she couldn’t escape. The girl was able to sneak away and find a friend who gave her some clothes. Now she lives in another village with three other Christian girls who were also rejected by their families.

The four Christian youth struggle to make ends meet, gathering and selling firewood to earn money for food. The girl has only one set of clothes. She fasts and prays two days a week, asking God to give her strength. “The Lord has touched my heart and shown his love for me,” she said.
