VOM helped the children

The previous post told the story of a boy whose family escaped an attack by radical Muslims in Kenya. The Voice of the Martyrs helped Kenyan families after the attack.

Children in the families still clearly remember the attack more than two years later. They drew pictures of the attack  and wrote stories about it for VOM workers. Read part of their stories below.

Mercy’s Story
It was on a Saturday, 5th July, 2014 evening when we were celebrating my happy birthday party. After reaching the middle of the party, we heard some screaming coming towards our house. My father moved out slowly. He saw some smoke in the sky, and after some time we heard some gunshots.

My father took us to the forest. I was shaking like a leaf during the summer. On Monday morning, we packed all our things and prepared ourself, and we vacated that place. The Voice of the Martyrs supported us with food, school bags, solar lamps. God bless the work of their hands. I am happy God will provide what we need. God bless those who supported us. Thank you.

Blessing’s Story
It was on Saturday at night. They came from Somalia. The weared clothes like police uniforms. They hid their face with a piece of cloth. It was the worst day of my life.

Sunday morning the police got the message. Thank God that I am alive.

Mary’s Story
I heard the gunshots that signified that things had gone amiss. I thought it was only the police who used to shoot guns. We saw smoke-looking-like on the air and reddish color. It was the attacking. When my grandfather tried to call on his phone, there was no network.

We slept in the forest for three weeks. To go to school, it was impossible, because of the fear not to be attacked.

I will never forget that day.
