Description

This activity is part of the 2012 Kids of Courage International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church Lesson Plan for Teachers.

Prepare in advance:
Collect flat-topped, threaded, colored-plastic bottle caps, such as those used on milk containers. Collect enough so that each student can have at least one. Using a large darning needle or other sharp tool, poke a hole in the side of each cap, making the hole large enough for a beaded key chain. Then make copies of the round photos on this page on sticker paper.

Other materials needed:
Beaded key chains, at least one for each student

Instructions:
Have each student put a key chain through the hole in a bottle cap and latch it (you may need to help younger children). Then instruct them to cut out one of the sticker circles and stick the circle on top of the cap. Tell them they can use the key chain as a reminder to pray for children in countries where Christians are persecuted. Or they may want to share the stories with another Christian and give him or her a key chain as a reminder to pray.

Variations:

  • Add a key ring to the key chain if desired.
  • Use decoupage medium to glue the photo to the caps and to seal and finish them. This method requires time for the key chains to dry.
